VSO Jazz Rehearsal

January 11, 2019 @ 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

VSO Whole Lotta Shakin’

We have booked a field trip to the VSO for students in Grades 4 – 9 on Friday, January 11, 2019.  We will be traveling by parents’ vehicles to the Orpheum which is located at 601 Smithe Street, Vancouver (between Seymour and Granville). The doors open at 10:30 am – please allow ample time to find parking. ALL ATTENDEES MUST BE SEATED NO LATER THAN 10:50 AM.  Once you arrive at the Orpheum, ask one of the ushers to seat you in the section reserved for Home Quest. The field trip will be supervised by Home Quest staff.

Please note that we plan to attend the first half of the rehearsal (about 1 hour long) and participate in the “Meet the Musicians” program during the break. Following that we will have a 40 minute tour of the Orpheum. The entire program will be approximately 2 hours long. Symphonic Encounters is an open rehearsal series, which means that attendees quietly observe the orchestra preparing for a regular season concert. VSO’s suggested age range for this program is Grade 6+, Home Quest suggests attentive Grade 4s+.

This Jazz series is a focus on one of the all-time greats, Benny Goodman. As the King of Swing, his influence on jazz, swing, big band, and popular music was unsurpassed. Dave Bennett and his quartet perform a loving and authentic tribute to The King of Swing, in a fantastic concert that features all of Goodman’s hits, including the timeless classics Moonglow, I’ve Got Rhythm, Slipped Disc, and of course, Sing Sing Sing.
