SUMMARY:Burns Bog Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Students in all grades are invited to join us for a field trip to Burns Bog at the Nature Reserve\, located at 10389 Nordel Court in Delta on Thursday\, May 19\, 2022. There will be two group tours to choose from. The first one from 9:30am – 11:45am and the second from 12:30pm – 2:30pm. Each trip is limited to 20 participants total\, so space will be limited. \nThrough inquiry and observation\, students will discover the 3 main characteristics that define a Bog as being unique from a forest or a stream\, or any other type of wetland ecosystem. They will hear stories of how resources in Burns Bog were traditionally used by local First Nations\, and how our changing views of peatlands has left Burns Bog with a rich history of land-use practices\, with both good and bad consequences for our environment. Students will discover how Burns Bog provides a home for many rare and endangered species\, and how a healthy ecosystem can support a strong food web. \nHere is the link to the Welcome Package.  The Welcome Package has information about directions\, parking\, and what to bring with you on your field trip. DESCRIPTION:Rock Your Mocs workshops – come into HQ to make a pair of moccasins and learn about Indigenous people. \nWorkshops are available through registration only. Home Quest has sent registered families a confirmation that included the necessary supplies to bring with you: \n\n\nCreating a pair of moccasins requires some strength and dexterity. Our presenters find that students from about Gr 5 -7 will be able to handle most of it on their own. But younger students should have a parent present to help them.\nKits are $15. Home Quest will cover the cost of enrolled Home Quest students and one parent. If you are planning to bring non-enrolled children or more than one adult\, please also bring $15 to cover the cost of that kit. We have ordered kits for the people you listed as attending on the survey.\nPlease bring a ruler (inches and cm both is best) and sturdy scissors with you. Using object-based inquiry\, students will investigate replica fishing tools and discuss fishing techniques. DESCRIPTION:Aldor Acres Family Farm \n“Pumpkin Patch” \nGrades K – 9 \nFriday\, October 22\, 2021 @ 11:00am \nStudents in Grades K to 9 are invited to join us for a field trip to the Aldor Acres Family Farm and \nPumpkin Patch\, located at 24990 84 Avenue in Langley\, located 5kms east of beautiful Fort Langley. \nThe main crop on the farm is pumpkins\, and that is where it all began. Owners and grandparents\, Albert and Dorothy (Al-Dor)\, put a small sign and a jar at the end of the road back in 1988 and started selling pumpkins on the honour system. Little did they know it would become a hit. Soon enough\, they were giving tractor-drawn hayrides out to the pumpkin patch and providing an educational\, hands-on farm experience for guests. \nFollowing the tour\, each child is invited to choose a pumpkin from the bin before leaving. Don’t forget \nyour plastic bag! \nWe will meet at 10:45a.m. at the farm on Friday October 22\, 2021. The field trip will be supervised by \nHome Quest staff and parent volunteers. The program has a maximum or 25 students per group and we have scheduled 2 groups. The first group will run from 10am-12pm and the second from 12:30pm-2:30pm. Select your preferred time slot; it will be first come first serve for time slots. \nPlease park at Port Moody Rec Center. The hatchery entrance is behind the building on the ice rink side. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. \nField Trip Description: Noons Creek salmon hatchery is a 100% volunteer operated facility. They raise Coho and Chum salmon from eggs to fingerlings (young fish) before releasing them during the Fingerling Festival each May for their four-year journey in the Pacific Ocean. The hatchery is a wonderful place for families to bring their children to learn about salmon and local wildlife and view Indigenous art and carvings. \nThis trip is “rain or shine”\, please dress for the weather!
